CAPE reduced explosive hazards in a 1.6-acre pond using UXO divers to conduct an underwater geophysical survey and recover and dispose of Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC). We also installed a fence to protect the public from entering the site in case any potential explosive hazards remained. As part of our work, CAPE removed overgrown mangroves, an invasive species that decreases oxygen levels in the water and limits nesting areas. This created a more natural habitat for native wildlife and endangered species, such as Hawaiian Stilts.
