Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Project Engineer, Civil with a Professional Engineer (PE) license and design and field engineering experience. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in a design environment producing construction documents (plans, specifications, basis of design, and design calculation packages) for U.S. government clients in the structural and general civil areas and must be able to stamp structural designs. The ideal candidate must also have at least 5 years of experience working in the field supporting construction projects and have a deep understanding of construction processes, coordination between design disciplines and a passion for innovation, a strong technical background, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality engineering solutions. This position will lead efforts with other lead discipline engineers to solve challenges encountered in the field in real-time related to design conflicts and constructability issues and effectively communicate with other engineers from the designer of record on construction projects to support outstanding project execution (scope, schedule, quality). As a lead engineer in our Construction Services group, the candidate will also be heavily involved in proposals, design on design/build projects, and developing/mentoring engineering staff.

Overall, the Sr. Project Engineer, Civil plays a critical role in bridging the gap between design concepts and real-world implementation, ensuring that engineering and construction projects are executed efficiently, safely, and successfully.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construction Oversight:
    • Lead the submittal phase for the civil and structural elements of projects, including coordination with subcontractors and field personnel to ensure adherence to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and quality assessments to monitor construction progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards, building codes, and safety regulations, and implement appropriate measures to mitigate risks and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Coordination and Communication:
    • Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams, subcontractors, and field personnel, resolving technical challenges and ensuring the successful implementation of engineering solutions.
    • Collaborate with project teams to assist in the preparation of progress reports, project updates, and other documentation for stakeholders, and participate in project meetings and presentations as required.
    • Coordinate with design engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to resolve design-related issues and implement design changes as required during the construction phase.
  • Design Development
    • For design documents prepared in-house, take the lead for Civil and Structural designs. May also be assigned to take the lead for overall responsibility to produce multidisciplinary design packages.
    • For design packages that are subcontracted outside for design-build packages, take the lead to review designs by others in the Civil and Structural disciplines to ensure compliance with scope, code, constructability, and clear presentation of design document requirements. May also be assigned to take the lead for overall responsibility for review of multidisciplinary design packages.

Team Development and Mentoring:

  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineering staff to foster professional growth, technical expertise, and leadership skills.
  • Develop training programs and resources to enhance the technical capabilities and knowledge of Construction Services staff.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structures.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Civil/Structural Engineering including site and building construction.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in a Lead Engineer role.
  • Strong technical expertise in Civil/Structural engineering principles, design methodologies, and construction practices.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to addressing construction-related challenges.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and drive business growth.

Travel: 10-20% (Proposal pre-bid meetings and site walks, project visits and assessments, etc.)

Salary:

  • $130K/year + commensurate with experience and qualifications
  • Annual performance bonus based on individual annual performance reviews and company profitability.
