Site Safety & Health Officer

This position will provide health and safety (H&S) support for projects as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO). Responsibilities include: participate in job walks and pre-job planning; prepare and review project work plans; specify and obtain safety supplies; provide supervision for recognition, evaluation, control of site hazards; establish safe work procedures; monitor safe work practices; present daily safety meetings, initial site safety briefings, and safety training; perform safety inspections and follow up actions; conduct exposure monitoring; complete incident reporting and investigations; maintain H&S recordkeeping; and provide health and safety technical assistance as needed.

Enforce implementation and compliance with the site specific health and safety plan, health and safety procedures and SSHO instructions; support the health and safety staff in the investigation of all health and safety incidents; provide support to ensure that health and safety citations or notice of violations are not issued; report safety violations or concerns promptly to management in accordance with CAPE procedures; provide follow up inspections and document correction of deficiencies; monitor and evaluate health and safety performance of assigned project site operations.

SALARY:
$80,000-$100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

TRAVEL:
This is an onsite position and only sporadic travel may be needed. The project is a fixed location in Eastern Kansas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of applicable experience over a 10-year time frame supporting the development and implementation of a Health & Safety program to include support and/or oversight of field safety operations). May be reduced to 3 years by the possession of a certification recognized by U.S Army Corps of Engineers EM385-1-1 Appendix M that provides 2 additional year of recognized experience. e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP-BCSP Credential), Occupational Safety and Health Technologist (OHST-BCSP Credential)
  • 5 years of construction or environmental industry safety experience in direct oversight of project activities in a safety or safety related position. Must be able to obtain Federal Government issued DBID's Card and other access required identifications.
  • Associate of Science's Degree, Bachelor of Science's Degree in Safety and Health, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Science, or Management or High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED) and five (5) years of applicable experience supporting the development and implementation of a Health & Safety program to include support and/or oversight of field safety operations.
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER, 8-Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor, and current annual refreshers. 30 Hour OSHA Construction Safety & Health Training, or equivalent; U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Construction Quality Management training; First-aid/CPR Certification; AHERA 40 Hour Asbestos Training, with refreshed as required.
  • Competent person training in excavation safety, confined space, fall protection and scaffold safety is desired but not required.
