Project Controls Specialist I

CAPE Environmental Management Inc (CAPE) is seeking a Project Controls Specialist I to support our nationwide federal remediation projects. This position will support the Project Management process by assisting the Project Controls Manager, senior Project Control Specialist, Project Managers and Site Superintendents with scheduling, costs tracking, productivity measurement and other project controls related duties. This position supports projects in the field by implementing all required project controls procedures and best practices. Responsibilities include the maintenance of cost tracking spreadsheets for assigned projects, coordination with field personnel to gather progress and costs information, supporting the schedule development process and updating project schedules in coordination with project manager and/or other project team members. The position will require occasional invoicing support for projects that require cost loaded schedule updates as part of the billing process and short-term travel (1 to 3 months annually) to job sites as required for support to field operations. When working in the field, the person in this position will be responsible to collect required information to prepare the Production and Cost Reports and prepare same. On at least a monthly basis, this position will be required to provide support in the development of project cost estimates to complete (ETCs) and monthly forecasts reports.

The position will support Project Managers from cradle to grave during project execution in coordination with other support groups such as Technical Services Organization, Quality Control, safety, construction and estimating. The person in this position will work closely with other project team members to provide timely project management deliverables relevant to assigned project controls duties. The position requires strong communication and Microsoft Office Suite skills in Word, Excel, as well as, intermediate proficiency using Primavera P6 and MS Project scheduling software. This role will assist in the preparation of monthly status reports, estimates to complete and financial status and forecasts of projects, as necessary. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting project execution, interacting with a diverse group of people from across the US, learning from books, classroom and on the job training. Preference will be given to applicants who can reference work demonstrating the skills and qualifications below. This position is a stepping stone to other positions such as Project Controls Specialist II, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Estimator, and / or Field Engineer positions, or stay in the Project Controls career path. SALARY:
$70,000-$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

TRAVEL:
This is a remote position and only sporadic travel may be needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Construction Management, Earth Science or Engineering required
  • 1-3 years of project management, project controls, project planning, project scheduling, and earned value performance, within the environmental remediation, environmental consulting or construction management industry. Fieldwork experience in environmental remediation is preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, with intermediate level using Excel and Project
  • Beginner/Intermediate experience with Primavera P6 scheduling software preferred
  • Understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling principles
  • Basic knowledge of cost control techniques and procedures
  • Basic understanding of cost estimating principles
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to lead when not having formal authority
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to understand and carefully follow both written and oral guidance/instructions
  • Resourceful and self-motivated
  • Able to handle multiple assignments on timely basis to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly to use new project controls tools and software.
  • Ability to learn on own and comprehend complex instructions
  • Ability to perform median level mathematics accurately and quickly

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in construction, engineering, cost estimating, or managing data to create reports
  • Experience working with MS Excel creating financial reports and pivot tables
  • Experience in developing project schedules using MS Project or Primavera P6 scheduling software, both platforms preferred
  • Familiarity with building/using Excel Macros and maintaining cost control reports
  • Basic knowledge of types of contracts: Firm Fixed Price (FFP); Fixed Unit Price (FUP); Time and Material (T&M); Cost Plus Award Fee (CPAF); and Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF).
